Earlier in 2012, this band brought us an album of Mehldau originals, which means we were due, this time around, for their take on tunes by Elvis Costello, Sufjan Stevens and Alice in Chains. "Got Me Wrong" kicks it off: While clever, it's oddly edgeless (or over-faithful to the MTV Unplugged version). But "Holland" gets a more counterintuitive workout. progressing from wistful to tough, and will it surprise you to learn they can swing jazz cuts like "Brownie Speaks" or "Airegin"? It shouldn't.
