A handful of churning, fuzzy rockers like "Possible Grenade" and "Something for All of Us..." cut a blazing path through Brendan Canning's solo debut, the second in the Broken Social Scene Presents series. But there's as much range as any BSS effort -- from "Love Is New," which nods to the Rolling Stones' Some Girls, to the delicately fractured "Snowballs and Icicles" -- even if BSS fans might miss the arching ease of Canning's regular songwriting partner, Kevin Drew. The world-weary last-call stride of "Been at It So Long" brings on the record's most poignant moment.
