Sing A Song For You: Tribute To Tim Buckley

Sep 2000

Biography

Along with Lisa Gerrard, Brendan Perry formed Dead Can Dance in the early 1980s, creating a meeting place for foreign, ancient and folk musical forms. Dead Can Dance managed to attract a core audience in the Goth community due to their darkly existential themes, as well as because of their affiliation with 4AD (label to Bauhaus, This Mortal Coil and Cocteau Twins). Dead Can Dance dissolved in 1998, leaving the duo to follow solo careers. Perry's voice is deeply haunting, resonating profound sorrow with such beauty that it contains a glimmer of hope amidst all its sadness. His solo career is far more conventional than the music of his past, as he uses his singular voice for acoustic-based songs of loss and longing.
