Brett Dennen is a boyish singer-songwriter with a sloppy red mop. He's impish and unswervingly optimistic. These qualities color every aspect of Loverboy, his fourth full-length. Musically, the album is a fat sack of breezy California pop; G. Love filtered through Tusk-era Fleetwood Mac sounds about right. Dennen's personality also informs his lyrics, or more accurately, his delivery of those lyrics. A perfect example is the tropical-flavored "Dancing At the Funeral": "Now's not the time to be so sad and lonesome," he coos. "We are going to the funeral, and we'll be dancing the night away."
