Much like her mentor, John Martyn, the mercurial Bridget St. John bridges pastoral British folk and the European art rock of John Cale, Kevin Ayers and Nico. Although you'll find a certain amount of warmth and comfort in her husky whisper and patient guitar work, St. John maintains a distance from her listeners as she subtly pushes herself to reject easy solutions and simple answers in search of new sounds and hidden feelings. It's an aesthetic foreshadowed in the record's name: Ask Me No Questions.
