One of the many goodies released for Record Store Day 2014, Bruce Springsteen's American Beauty EP consists of outtakes from his High Hopes album (released in January 2014). Not at all surprising considering the Boss is one of rock 'n' roll's greatest songwriters, but these four cuts don't feel like outtakes in any way. Had the bluesy, rootsy title track (soak up that slide guitarwork, people) been included on High Hopes, it easily would've been one of the record's top highlights. "Hurry Up Sundown," a super-catchy fusion of heartland rock and classic power-pop, is nearly as good.
