DeFranco's always a joy to listen to, and this 1953 session featuring the clarinetist backed by Art Blakey, Kenny Drew and Milt Hinton is one of his best still in print. The extended opener is swinging, simmering blues, while the rest of the album is a freewheeling bop and ballads set. This one just pulses with energy and excitement.
