Biography

Four-piece (two bass, two drums) heavy noise mavens Burmese dedicate themselves to keeping the spirits of Whitehouse and Brainbombs alive with a positively brutal combination of no-tempo grindcore, weather-changing repetition and P.O.'d monkey vocals. Their first album, Burmese Is Dead, appeared in 1998, and the Oakland, Calif.-based band has since released an additional eight records and split CDs while sporadically making people throughout the Bay Area go deaf in person. Over the years Burmese has dabbled in grindcore, electronic power violence and straight noise, but whatever abrasive genre the band decides to work in, you can be assured that the music they put to tape is continually among the most overloaded, sonically demanding spasmodia offered in the pantheon of extreme music. In 2008, the quartet added a fifth member, female vocalist Tissue.
