Con Ritmo by Burnt Friedman
Released: Mar 2000
Label: Nonplace
Germany's Burnt Friedman began his career recording ominous drone music, but with 2000's Con Ritmo, he shifted to a kind of hyperreal jazz-funk. Drawing influence from dub, Latin jazz, African drumming and Miles Davis' molten fusion, Friedman creates a new kind of fusion for the digital era, breaking down the barrier between live and programmed music -- and introducing electronic music to a rare degree of rhythmic complexity. Later collaborations with Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit would produce even more dazzling, shapeshifting hybrids.
