As with Cage the Elephant's previous efforts, Melophobia is a high-octane blender. "It's Just Forever," "Black Widow," "Spiderhead" … these Kentuckians sure do love their manic rockers. Even the ballads "Telescope" and "Cigarette Daydreams" are shot through with nervous energy. Now as for that blender comment, it refers to the sheer amount of ideas mixed into each cut: indie, psychedelia, blues, reggae, electronica, folk, etc., etc., etc. There are times when Cage the Elephant sound a little too much like a post-modern jukebox, but so long as the hooks keep a-coming they'll be just fine.
