San Francisco jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi once recorded a sacred jazz concert at Grace Cathedral. Guaraldi was scheduled to do another Grace Cathedral concery but when he tragically passed away, Cal Tjader stepped in and took his old friend's place. Since Tjader wasn't into composing devotional music, he just put on the kind of funky Latin jazz and mainstream bop concert he was famous for. Lonnie Hewitt sounds great on the electric piano, while Cal tips his hat to his vibes idol, Milt Jackson, on "Bluesology," and stretches out on "Body & Soul." Sadly, Tjader would die young just like Guaraldi.
