Garden Ruin
Calexico
Released:
Mar 2006
Label:
Quarterstick Records
The ever-intriguing Calexico step out from behind the Mariachi trumpets to reveal a softer, more straight-ahead side of their desert sound. Garden Ruin is less Spaghetti western improvisation than contemporary singer-songwriter twang-pop ballads, which is a lot like Richard Buckner booting Don Henley to front the Eagles. "All Systems Red" is the impressive ride-off-into-the-feedback-laden-sunset.
