Carcass' first album to feature second guitarist Michael Amott, Necroticism is marked by increased song complexity, guitar solos more plotted out than jammed in, and an almost imperceptible dialing down of the ultra gore. Don't worry, though, there are still enough mentions of bowels and incomprehensible medical terms for the die-hards. Stylistically, the album represents a perfect middle ground between Symphonies of Sickness and the landmark Heartwork, which surfaced in 1993.
