If you were to take the particular style of sparkling effusive joy exuded by fluffy animals in Japanese anime films and distill it down into musical form, adding a dash of Beach Boys percussion, it might sound like Caribou's opener to this lovely EP. Four Tet then take "Melody Day" in a completely different direction, sounding like the Polyphonic Spree impersonating Belle and Sebastian. It's frankly superb, being that very rare thing: a reworking that preserves and respects the original, but creates something utterly new and thrilling.
