From Argentina To The World
Released: Sep 2006
Label: EMI Argentina
When Carlos Gardel sings the opening bars of "Mi Buenos Aires Querido," it's like a balm to the spirit, his voice as velvety as the Rio de la Plata that flows through the city. He was tango's resident romantic; he took the music out of the whorehouses, where it was tough and angular, softened its edges and brought it to film, making it marginally more acceptable in the process. Despite all the musicians who have followed, from Astor Piazzolla to the electro-tango contingent, Gardel remains Buenos Aires' patron saint, his voice flowing through the city -- and its country -- to this day.
