Biography
Former NME columnist Cath Carroll begin her career in the early '80s as a member Factory Records' Miaow. Although featured on NME's influential C-86 compilation in '86 alongside artists like the Pastels, the Wedding Present and Primal Scream, she wouldn't surface again until 1991's England Made Me. In '93, indie favorites Unrest used a portrait of Cath Carroll on the cover of their record as well as used her name as the title for their single. The resurgence of interest led to her signing to Unrest leader Marc Robinson's Teenbeat label where she released a single and the full-length True Crime Motel in '95. Marked by her dreamy, smoldering vocals, her music has a soulful edge that often dips into Bossa Nova rhythms and often sparse instrumentation.
