This mezzo-soprano enjoys nothing more than a high-concept dive into forgotten repertoire, preferably with a touch of gender play. After tackling the castrati catalog in Sacrificium, now Bartoli sings the music of the prolific-but-forgotten early baroque composer and Italian cleric/diplomat Agostino Steffani. (She dresses up like him on the cover, for good measure.) The project isn't as head-spinning as Sacrificium was, though it has its moments, particularly in the sensual slower pieces that showcase the singer's fine-grain command of her range in a studio setting.
