Con Otro Aire is as mongrel and sophisticated an album as Chambao's ever made. At times lead singer La Mari, who was the primary creative force behind the album, sounds like a classically trained Indian singer -- her tone is that pure and unusual, especially when backed by tambura. Their flamenco-chill also gains new heat from Middle Eastern and African influences picked up on the band's travels. Her collaboration with Camila will delight pop fans, but for flamenqueros, her collaboration with Enrique Morente, "Respira," gets closest to the duende any flamenco fan seeks.
