From Etudes to Cataclysms is as much about the instrument as it is the composer and musician. Palestine came up with the idea for this album when a friend told him about something called a "double piano," which is basically two pianos: one played with the hands, the other with the feet. The result is one of minimalism's more austere and challenging compositions. With his laser-guided sense of timing and legendary physical prowess, Palestine melts individual notes into this profoundly droning echo.
