You may remember a young Charlie Louvin and his late brother Ira standing on a heap of burning coals in front of a giant cardboard cutout of the devil for their infamous 1958 album cover Satan Is Real. Almost 50 years later, his voice sounds as you might expect -- ravaged by time. But compared to George Jones' deflated inflections (also featured here), Louvin almost sounds as young as any of his fine country album's guests, which include Jeff Tweedy from Wilco, Elvis Costello, Tom T. Hall, Marty Stuart and members of Bright Eyes and Superchunk.
