Renowned for his peerless blues harmonica skills and tart juke-joint vocals, Musselwhite finally releases his first album of all originals (he's been releasing albums since the 1960s). Tunes like the title track artfully refer to the man's hard-drinking days, while "Sad and Beautiful World" (a duet with his friend Mavis Staples) touches on the senseless murder of his elderly mother. The blues still help us make sense of the confusion, pain and joys of life, and Charlie Musselwhite is one of the form's masters.
