Love The Future
Released: Apr 2009
Label: The Neptunes
Harvard kids who name their band after a noted sculptor? They're nearly obliged to open their debut record in a foreign language, include coy string interludes and fill retro synth-pop in with post-colonial sarcasm: singer D.A. Wallach bemoans "sluts," pines for a "Puerto Rican Pamela Lee" and loves a lass afflicted by the "Jimmy Choos." Even if the duo's Love of the Future isn't without hook (the imaginative final cut, "Sleep," is at the top of the heap), it also portrays an emotion without much soul.
