Chingo Bling dropped his major-label debut in 2007 and the world was introduced to the "Versace Mariachi," the Spanglish-rapping superstar-in-his-own-mind. The album is classic Houston with a twist: Chingo Bling, for all his posturing, took offense at the anti-immigrant uproar in 2006 and retitled the album from the planned Welcome to the Border. What was a bumping release about honeys and money -- with appearances by Paul Wall and Pitbull, among others -- acquired a political patina, and the title track became an ironic anthem for the pro-immigrant movement.
