Ray Ellis' lush charts and use of wordless "vapor voices" aren't the best backing for Chris Connor, but the LP still has a nice swing pulse and the cool jazz singer is always on sure-footing with torch songs. Interestingly, there are very few standards here, with most tunes -- like "Radar Blues" being very infrequently recorded. Another great cover photo.
