This debut from the young horn player combines elements of Miles Davis' dark funk with a feel for modern bop. The crackling rhythm section and Fender keyboard jabs are aimed more at younger club and hip-hop fans, but Christian Scott and his group are solid enough to earn the respect of mainstream jazz fans. Scott's uncle, Donald Harrison, offers sax support on a number of tunes, including his own "Paradise Found."
