Opening its doors in 1993, Kranky Records is the noise/drone label for avant-garde artists who sip well-aged merlots, not underground freaks who guzzle cans of PBR. Case in point: In Between Words, Bissonnette's second for the label, hovers in that hazy, ethereal zone between classical minimalism, indie drone, IDM and ambient abstraction. These six extended tracks are wildly experimental, but in a cool, meditative way that betrays Bissonnette's background in the fine arts. Anybody got a corkscrew?
