With Soap and Water, Chuck Prophet has produced his most accomplished solo LP, a collection of witty turns of phrase and gnarly Telecaster riffs that outshine anything he's put his hand to since the days of Green on Red. "Let's Do Something Wrong" might be the most fun, and "Small Town Girl" is the songwriter's affable attempt at writing in the shadow of Petty. The winner here, however, is the title track, a collection of paired opposites that includes, brilliantly, "dry hump/wet nurse."
