Chuy Jr. Y Sus Jardineros
Chuy Jr. isn't just any old upstart this kid's father, Jesus Chavez, sings for a little group called los Originales de San Juan. Still, Chuy chose not to follow in his famous father's footsteps, instead opting to feed the norteno he was raised on into that collective global construction known as hip-hop. His 2003 release, the deceptively named Mr. Party, actually contained mostly straight-ahead norteno songs, other than the slightly buzzing West Coast-influenced title track. It wasn't until 2004's Hip Hop, Sal y Limon that Chuy really brought in the hip-hop elements that the kids like so much.
