Despite their name, Pennsylvania's Circle of Dead Children are not just batch of another pointlessly offensive Metal miscreants. There are no silly gore/horror references or blind words of praise to the almighty Satan in their lyrics. Actually, they sing about politics and social issues, but then again, this is Grindcore we're dealing with -- you can't understand what they're saying without a lyric sheet. What matters is the music, and they deliver in that category. Their sound is deep, dense, and massively "heavy," yet at the same time marked by clear production that catches the details rather than yielding an undefined blur. Their songs shift smoothly between fast Death Metal riffs, grinding blastbeat sections, and bluesy sludge breakdowns worthy of New Orleans doom-bringers Eyehategod. Topping it off is a vocal mix of ridiculously deep death growls, crusty Hardcore screams and tormented Black Metal yelps. Sick and smart at the same time, CoDC are obviously not for all tastes, but if you've made it this far, you're probably ready to dig in.
