Cobra Starship are savvier than they let on. Swapping out raw emotion for heavily processed beats and vocals, their interpretation of emo comes straight from a warehouse rave. Hot Mess has all the ingredients any pop-culture-obsessed kid could hope for: Hot actress (Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester on "Good Girls Go Bad"); ironic name-dropping ("Pete Wentz is the Only Reason We're Famous"); campy cult film mention ("Wet Hot American Summer"); cheeky Beatles reference ("Living in the Sky With Diamonds"); knowing they can get away with it all ("You're Not in on the Joke").
