Jason Schwartzman tackles songwriting with the same quirky, geeky, irresistible charm he puts into his acting roles. The stoic, carefree, West Coast hipster vibe works wonders on screen, and it transfers into his music just as effortlessly. His short and snappy songs are filled with gentle harmonies, mellow acoustic strums, heavy kick drum and the occasional kitschy horn or piano interlude. From the autobiographical "Drummer" to the melancholic "I Am Young" and the bluesy, clap-along "Wires," he borrows heavily from the Lennon-McCartney songbook, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.
