Can I Borrow A Dollar? (Exclusive, Explicit)

by Common
Can I Borrow A Dollar? by Common
Released: Oct 1992
Label: Relativity Records
Released back when the Chi-Town rapper was known as Common Sense, this debut is too febrile and occasionally misogynist (see "Puppy Chow" and the somewhat better "Tricks up My Sleeve") to be anything more than an early '90s time capsule. He was destined for greatness, though, and he scored a few standout cuts alongside hypeman Twilite Tone, particularly the jazzy delight of "Take It EZ" and the bouncing jeep beat of "Soul by the Pound." "Breaker 1/9" is an amusing sex tale, and "A Penny for My Thoughts" finds him spraying punchlines like a jittery Uzi.
