Comprising MC Eiht, Mike T, and the Chill MC (as well as DJs Slip and Unknown behind the boards), CMW were amongst the first wave of post-NWA gangsta rappers. Their classic debut It's A Compton Thang dropped in 1990 and showcased high-energy production and fierce rhymes. Straight Checkn'em and Music To Driveby followed, and they also had a hit with "Growin' Up In the Hood" from the Boyz N The Hood soundtrack. Shortly after their third album, MC Eiht split the crew to pursue a successful solo career. They regrouped in 2000 for Represent, and later released a greatest hits collection called When We Wuz Bangin'.
