Concha Buika has taken Spain's notoriously conservative music world by storm. With the kind of life-damaged singing that sends flamenco fans swooning, Mi Nina Lola is a tour de force. Buika's voice is stunning, but perhaps just as importantly, she gets to the aching heart of the music. Throughout the album, her band has the good sense to sit back and let her do the work, simply punctuating her powerhouse voice with touches of piano, handclaps, cajon or understated guitar. Not a surprise, given that producer Javier Limon was at the helm.
