On her third album, Concha Buika's soul-rending sound has found its place in the world. She may fly the flamenco flag, but Buika's tradition is fundamentally torch music -- artfully concealed pain filtered through the strict confines of tango, bolero, jazz -- only in Buika's case, she seems to encompass all of the above. The music spars with her, holds her back, cools her down ... and then she lashes out, her voice a scar in the air, and we're shaken out of our seats all over again. Nina De Fuego is something to behold, and easily one of the better world albums of 2008.
