Where Constantines' moody noise pop used to be characterized by its fiery spurts of grinding guitar, Kensington Heights is a departure of sorts, presenting a more meandering pace and mellower neo-psychedelia. "Shower of Stones" and "Hard Feelings" have woolen strings and purling rhythms that are on the noisier, more angst-ridden side of the spectrum. But "Our Age" and "Life or Death" shows the band's softer side, with gentler melodies that swell without bursting wide open.
