IX by Corrosion of Conformity
Released: Jun 2014
Three decades since their debut, these once-crossover-thrashing North Carolina sludgers pull off a hefty pile of stoner-rock, letting the first two monster-truck plods peak with wanderlustful guitar stretch-outs, then splitting the difference between garage psych and hardcore in a rager inspired by martyred 1822 slave rebellion leader Denmark Vesey. "The Nectar," another speedy wobbler, makes a slight return at album's end; there's a pretty minute-long "Interlude"; "Tarquinus Superbus" starts like full-on NWOBHM. Across the board, the vocals melt like they've been left out too long in the sun.
