Biography

Crescent releases need to come with cautionary labels that say, "Warning: Contains Depressing Material." One doesn't simply listen to Crescent's deconstructionist songs; the songs invade you. Earlier recordings were raucous and briny with Surf guitar. More recent recordings aim for a moodier ambiance. The usual rock repertoire is augmented with smash-and-grab found sounds and disorienting atmospheric effects. Sometimes it sounds like they used an abandoned mine for their studio, or a subway tunnel, or a sewer, so cavernous are the acoustics. Whatever else you do during one their songs, don't forget to take your Prozac. Crescent can be life-damaging (in the most delightful way).
