El Culpable Soy Yo
Released: Apr 2009
After his flirtation with mariachi, Castro returns to the genre that made him a star (and may or may not return him to the charts): romantic pop. The downside? From its flaccid hooks to unnecessary guitar arpeggios, El Culpable Soy Yo doesn't seem to be ironically referencing the '80s, though much of it sounds like it was recorded in the sweatband-wearing era itself. (Schmaltz never rusts, apparently.) That said, Castro's in fine voice, and a song like "No Me Digas" should be a guilty pleasure any Latin pop fan can happily indulge in.
