Curtis Mayfield made natural, laidback soul music and often looked on the dark side of the African American experience. Neither of these things made him suited for disco, but since it was basically the black pop music of the late 1970s and early '80s, there was little he could do about it. So, for this 1979 set, Mayfield put himself into the hands of a top-notch Philly Soul production team and earned his biggest seller in years. Ironically, the sweet duet "Between You Baby and Me" comes close to Mayfield's soul sound with the Impressions -- and it was the set's breakout hit single!
