Tadd Mullinix created his Dabrye project during the click-hop fad, an era when electronic artists replicated the chopped loops and beats of hip-hop music with laptop software and an IDM aesthetic. Unlike most of the Prefuse 73 and Machinedrum copycats, Dabrye had a unique vision, albeit one inspired by fellow Michigan producer J Dilla. His One/Three is a minimalist masterwork of steamboat bass and half-time grooves, where winsome sampled melodies meet genuinely funky head-nodders like "The Lish," "So Scientific" and "Truffle No Shuffle." It's a classic period piece.
