Released: Jan 1994
Cascading, torrential guitars, drums felt more than heard and a backmasked greeting from Varg Vikernes (Burzum, first degree murder, arson) that says "Dear God, let the churches burn," have, over the years, contributed to the notion that Transylvanian Hunger (1994) is both Darkthrone's finest hour and a touchstone for the whole black metal aesthetic. "Skald Av Satans Sol" blisters past at a pace Darkthrone, and really no black metal band, had ever attempted before. The entire album shrieks by in under 40 minutes. Nocturno Culto's vocals are really good on this one.
