Like techno itself, Darling Farah's Kamau Baaqi was born in Detroit, but unlike just about anyone else in electronic music, Baaqi moved to the United Arab Emirates when he was 16. His music isn't exactly exotic -- his early records represented a home-schooled approach to globalized house and bass music, and on his debut LP, he's still working through the legacy of icons like Basic Channel. But you can hear the benefits of his relative isolation: Ranging from gruff, shadow-boxing workouts to deep-diving dub techno, Body engages with its peers without sounding quite like anyone else.
