Unassuming and minimalistic (down to the one-word song titles), Daughter find a mesmerizing median between bleakness and beauty. Originally just Elena Tonra, the London group has expanded, with boyfriend Igor Haefeli on guitar and drummer Remi Aguilella providing pressure-building beats. Layers of moody drones gather around acoustic plucks, but the spotlight is on Tonra, who juxtaposes lyrics of failed love with the soothing timbre of new-age goddess Enya: "If you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones/ 'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs," she sings on "Youth." Gorgeous.
