Former Zoviet France member, Mark Spybey, began project Dead Voices on Air in the early '90s, producing methodic sound explorations. Crossing improvisation with composition, Spybey constructs collages of drones and rhythms that evolve and devolve, aspire and decline in nonlinear patterns. Cool disonance blows across the surface of warm instrumentation. Playing the studio like an apothecary's mortar and pestle, Spybey concocts delicate compounds through the use and misuse of various guitars, keyboards, samplers, tapes, wind instruments and anything else that can produce or appropriate sound.
