by Deana Carter
Released: Oct 2007
Label: Vanguard Records
If hearing Kris Kristofferson's sexy grandpa voice chime in on Deana Carter's summery take on his "Help Me Make It Through the Night" doesn't move you, maybe Dolly Parton's quivering harmonies on "Love Is Like a Butterfly" will. Then again, Harper Simon's breathy harmonies on the mercurial version of his father Paul's "The Boxer" are pretty sweet. Yes, the The Chain is an album of covers, but it's also a tribute to Carter's father, Fred Carter, Jr. (a respected Nashville session veteran) and some of the classic recordings he was involved with. Willie Nelson and George Jones also cameo.
