Biography
Katy Davidson, the only constant member of Dear Nora, started writing songs and singing in 1996 and formed Dear Nora three years later with bassist Ryan Wise and drummer Marianna Ritchey, all of whom were studying at Portland's Lewis & Clark College. They issued a pair of self-released cassettes before releasing a self-titled seven-inch on Portland's Magic Marker Records and an EP, Dreaming Out Loud, which was written and recorded in a single day. In 2001, Dear Nora's debut LP, We'll Have a Time, was issued on Magic Marker and licensed for release in Japan. An EP, The New Year followed a year later. 2004's Mountain Rock had many of the lovely, simple elements of Davidson's early work, but mixed in so-called elements of slow core, folk and shoegazer music. In 2006 There Is No Home appeared, which Davidson announced would be the band's last.
