The Dream Calls for Blood

The Dream Calls for Blood by Death Angel
Released: Oct 2013
Label: Nuclear Blast
Underdogs worth rooting for since they were Filipino-American Bay Area teens thrashing out in the mid '80s, Death Angel prove as likeable as ever on their fourth album since reforming in 2001. The vocals sound human, the choruses rhyme, the noodles taste good (pretty medievalisms especially). They excel at motorboat-step-on-the-gas swerve and chug, and even their spurned-male complaints in "Succubus" don't come off whiney or mean. "Son of the Morning" is bell-tower doom with wah-wah attached, and "Execution - Don't Save Me" and "Caster of Shame" owe as much to GN'R and Black Flag as Metallica.
