This one-off collaboration between Midwest rappers Sole, Slug, Dose One and Alias helped pioneer what would eventually be known and reviled as "emo-rap." In some ways, it remains the standard, expressing a wide-eyed and precocious view of the world through heavily affected cadences and freestyle battle-hardened verses. They wonder about the meaning of life on "June 26th, 1998," and deftly trade microphones for "Thought vs. Action." The muted, DJ Shadow-influenced production shines a stark light on these four young emcees who inadvertently created a subgenre and influenced a generation of artists.
