Deerhoof's eighth album, 20 songs strong, takes their dime-turning, explosive pop sound and adds a bit of rock standardization to it. Not a bad thing for a the notoriously glitchy, headspinning band, this new direction prioritizes Satomi Matsuzaki's cutesy vocals and epic, guitar bravado, weirdly enough, like a more French ye-ye pop version of the Who.
